Bamboo whisk (Chasen)

This bamboo whisk is handcrafted from a single piece of golden bamboo, with 100 fine prongs designed to dissolve powdered tea evenly and create a light, creamy foam. Each whisk is slightly unique, reflecting the natural character of the bamboo and the craftsmanship behind it.

Why a bamboo whisk

Bamboo whisks have been used in Japanese tea culture for centuries and for good reason.

Unlike metal whisks or electric frothers, bamboo tines are flexible and gentle. They break up clumps without damaging the texture of the tea, allowing matcha and hojicha powder to fully dissolve while preserving their smooth mouthfeel and nuanced flavour.

First-time use

Before your first preparation, place the whisk in warm water for a few minutes. This allows the prongs to soften and gently open, preventing breakage and helping the whisk perform at its best.

After a few uses, the prongs will naturally spread and the center knot will bloom. It will be a sign that the whisk is settling into regular use and developing its ideal shape.
